  • Dr. Holland’s work aims to improve interventions and clinical assessment for older adults who have experienced significant late-life stressors (e.g., bereavement, caregiving, and chronic illness). Another aspect of his research focuses on treatment and clinical assessment issues with military Veterans and other violence-exposed populations. From an assessment standpoint, he have developed and tested several instruments that aim to better capture the implications of stressful and traumatic experiences. With regard to intervention research, his work has focused on (#1) assessing the overall effectiveness of currently practiced treatments in both the lab and “real world” settings; (#2) identifying subgroups that may benefit from enhanced interventions; and (#3) proposing, developing, and testing improved treatments for these specific populations. Dr. Holland is particularly interested in improving psychological treatments (and increasing access to treatment) for disadvantaged older adults, such as those in rural communities and ethnic/racial minority individuals.
