Dr. Cruess is specifically interested in how stress, depression, anxiety, personality, and other psychosocial and behavioral factors influence risk behavior (such as sexual risk, adherence behavior or aggression) and ultimately how these factors impact mental and physical health functioning.



He has studied these factors in a variety of patient populations, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and cardiovascular disease. He is currently examining these factors among psychiatric inpatients and also among incarcerated individuals within the prison system.
