The observation and modelling of the the urban heat island (UHI), with a strong focus on the theoretical and applied aspects of UHI reseach within tropical and subtropical cities. A key question that frames this branch of my research is "how does geography affect the development and impacts of the urban heat island?"
Sustainability in urban climatology, especially towards the vulnerability of tropical & subtropical cities. On top of impacts stemming from global climate change, the physical processses of urbanisation also lead to both extensive and increased stressors towards ecosystems across a myriad of spatio-temporal scales. What are the resulting impacts, and how do these vary geographically with respect to sustainable cities?
