I have wide ranging research interests within the areas of gender, sexualities and the media. My central focus has been on the ways in people engage with, make sense of and use media/popular cultural representations in the context of their everyday lives. Recent projects have explored viewers’ responses to/readings of ‘killer women’ films, television and advertising representations of Viagra, and popular representations of ‘sexy oldies’. My current Marsden funded project, with Dr Sue Jackson (Victoria University, Wellington), investigates preteen girls’ engagement with an increasingly sexualised ‘tween’ popular culture
