My doctoral dissertation examined the conditions under which ethnic minorities are likely to engage in violence during democratic transitions. The empirical focus of my dissertation was on minority mobilization during transitions from colonial rule in ex-British colonies. I am currently preparing a book proposal based on my thesis.
I am also currently working on two other projects. The first project examines the long-term roots of post-colonial ethnic violence in pre-colonial political institutions. The second project examines the conditions under which the introduction of economic reforms in patronage democracies will lead to the growth of illiberal politics.
