My research focus is on reasoning and decision-making. I investigate the distinction between intuition (“gut feelings”) and analytic thinking, with a particular focus on two broad questions: 1) What features of our cognitive architecture initiate deliberative thought in the mind?, and 2) When does reasoning hurts us and when does it helps us? Research topics include: Conflict detection, base-rate neglect, religious belief, morality, creativity, smartphone use, science beliefs, political ideology, and misinformation
