  • My major areas of interest are marxian anthropology, class and culture, social inequality, and Newfoundland and Shetland Islands ethnography. My first ethnographical research was an exploration of Shetland Island myth and ritual through a Levi-Straussian lens, and my more recent fieldwork explores the connections between class and culture during Newfoundland's period of merchant capitalism. My current research projects include an historical anthropology of merchant capitalism in Newfoundland, and a theoretical project exploring the connections between culture and the differentiation of social relations of appropriation.
