Robert Stewart’s research is focused on quantitative, computational methods particularly in the areas of geospatial and spatiotemporal modeling, with an emphasis on uncertainty, risk, and decision analysis. Areas of application have primarily centered on environmental pollution, risk, sample design, remediation, and associated implications for regulatory compliance. Recent activities include other geographical sciences such as population distribution and spatial epidemiology. Quantifying uncertainty and risk as well as understanding the implications of both for
decision making is a recurring theme in his work. He leads development of the Spatial Analysis and Decision Assistance (SADA) freeware program, serves as a reviewer for a number of professional journals, and is a member of the Association of American Geographers, the Society for Risk Analysis, and the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences.
