Departmental Overview

The Department of Neuroscience, which was launched in July 2024, will advance the understanding of brain, mind, and behavior through research, education and training. Our faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers study how the brain functions in health and disease, how it generates behavior and thought, and how it computes. We investigate the nervous system on levels ranging from molecules and cells, to neural circuits and systems, to behavior and cognition, to neural computation. We also develop neurotechnology and explore the impacts of neuroscience on society.

The department is recruiting for 2 openings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform neuropsychological tests, score test results, and enter results into a database;
  • Assist during PET and MRI scans, operate scanners independently
  • Determine whether a subject is eligible to participate in a research protocol; recruit subjects for participation in research studies
  • Perform data analysis and maintain databases

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with measures of cognitive functioning
  • Familiarity with standard office software
  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems (Linux, Unix, OSX, Windows)
  • Familiarity with statistics, including the use of standard statistical hypothesis-testing software such as SPSS, SAS, Statistica, or R.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, good record-keeping
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication ability
  • BA or BS preferably in psychology or neuroscience, or related fields and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some programming experience in Matlab, Python or similar software
  • Experience with human subjects research
  • Some experience working with databases
  • Experience in working with PET or MR images

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly rate that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.52 (step 1).

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
