The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications at the rank of Associate or Full professor for a position in Gender and Health beginning Fall 2023. We are seeking a dynamic teacher and researcher whose work engages gender, sexuality, and bodily autonomy in health, while challenging health inequalities and injustices in a transnational and/or global context. We especially welcome candidates whose work is focused on the Middle East, North Africa, or Asia, or on transnational movements.

Topics might include:
  • health-oriented organizing and activism;
  • reproductive justice activism;
  • women’s and/or LGBTQ+ healthcare and access;
  • policy and medical regulation of gendered and sexed bodies;
  • transgender and intersex rights in healthcare,
  • sports,
  • other institutional settings.
We seek a colleague who will help anchor a growing area at UB, located within an energetic and collegial department that has been formally identified as an area of expansion and investment by university leadership. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to teach core courses in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department values the ability to mentor students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Standard teaching includes two classes per term and all faculty are expected to maintain a robust research agenda and participate in departmental service.

The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies (GGSs) is the interdisciplinary home for research and teaching on feminism, women, gender, and sexuality at UB. Originally formed in 1972, we attract students locally, nationally and internationally and have thriving BA, MA and PhD programs. We are committed to using feminist theory and intersectional gender analysis to explore the complex intersections of gender, race, class, sexuality and disability, and in supporting critical analysis directed towards social change and the creation of more just societies.
