Position description

The Stone Center at UC Berkeley is looking for highly skilled and motivated individuals to work as a Specialist at the Junior or, Assistant rank. The job will entail close collaboration during all stages of the research process on several new and ongoing empirical projects in public finance, spatial economics and applied microeconomics. Possible project topics cover questions related to economic disparities across locations, tax competition, the incidence of trade tariffs, population-ageing in space, and inequality.

This position offers the opportunity to gain exposure to and training in a broad set of economic research topics and methodologies before pursuing a PhD in economics. The chosen candidate will gain valuable experience analyzing large datasets, including "big data" sources such as administrative and geospatial data, using techniques from economics and computer science. The candidate will work with programs such as Stata, R, GIS, Matlab, Julia, and Python.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) program.

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree).

Preferred qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or master degree in a quantitative field, including Economics, Computer Science or related theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge in the area of Economics.
  • Strong quantitative background
  • Programming experience
  • Be able to work independently to solve problems
  • Planning to pursue a PhD in Economics or, related field
