Researchers in the Department of Psychology and the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Windsor are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to oversee and assist in the development of a training program to help prepare nursing students to successfully transition into hospital-based jobs during global and regional health crises such as pandemics. The post-doctoral Fellow will be paid through CIHR funding awarded to Drs. Dana Ménard and Kendall Soucie in the Department of Psychology, and Drs. Laurie Freeman and Jody Ralph in the Faculty of Nursing (2022-2024). Working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, the post-doctoral fellow will assist in the development of a psychology-based 10-week training program combining both in-person and online elements for senior nursing students transitioning to hospital-based work. The focus of the program will be on building nurses’ resilience as it relates to real-world professional issues. Content areas addressed during the program may include trauma, burnout, moral distress, challenges related to nurses’ racial identities, working with racialized patients during COVID, community-based stigma towards healthcare workers, self-care, and resiliency. Program development begins in July 2022 and will be offered for the first time in the winter of 2023 at the University of Windsor and then at two additional sites (the University of Ottawa and Queen’s University). This position will begin July 2022 and will continue until June 2024. The fellow will report to Dr. Dana Ménard, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, in Windsor, Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities.
The post-doctoral fellow will serve as the primary research coordinator and will assist with literature reviews; ethics submissions; training program development; qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, and analysis; preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and reports; and knowledge dissemination and translation events. The fellow will also be responsible for grant writing and mentoring and training graduate and undergraduate students as part of this project. Occasional travel to other research project sites (Ottawa and Kingston) may be required.

- PhD in social science or health science discipline by the date of hire (e.g., psychology, sociology, health sciences)
- Experience in program development and evaluation in health care settings
- Demonstrated project management and project coordination skills.
- Experience with longitudinal research designs and analyses (e.g., structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, latent growth curves, etc.) and proficiency in statistical software packages such as SPSS, and/or SAS, R, etc.
- Familiarity conducting qualitative research (e.g., focus groups, and interviews)
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively and professionally with research team members, community partners, and other project stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, to set and schedule priorities, to anticipate and meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities, tasks, and priorities.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed research publications
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in health care settings and/or related fields (e.g., public health)
- Experience with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research designs.
- Experience in knowledge mobilization activities
- Background and/or experience with issues related to mental health (e.g., trauma, burnout, anxiety/depression)
