Position: The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2018, with a focus on applied environmental anthropology.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be prepared to teach undergraduate and Master’s level graduate anthropology courses, be prepared to mentor and chair graduate students on thesis work, be willing to teach some distance-education courses, actively pursue research and scholarship opportunities, and be committed to service to the department, college, and university. The normal teaching load is two courses per semester.
Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology at the time of appointment. Primary expertise must be in applied environmental anthropology, with interests in community conservation and sustainability, environmental justice and marginalized populations, human and cultural ecology, globalization and policy, or traditional ecological knowledge. Geographic area is open.
The Department: The Department of Anthropology at UNT focuses on various aspects of applied anthropology, including but not limited to business/ technology/ design, medical, educational, and environmental anthropology, urban issues, and the study of migration and identity. It encourages approaches that address societal challenges. The department offers both MA/ MS degrees in anthropology, including both distance-learning as well as in-residence degrees. Located in the Dallas-Ft Worth Metroplex, a community of some seven million residents, the university has more than 35,000 students. UNT is a tier-1 research university.
